Aspire League

Event - Aspire League

Overview

The Aspire League is for archers at a moderate to advanced skill level, and is designed to achieve the following objectives:

League Format

The Aspire League is a multi-week league run several times each year.

Each week, archers will first shoot a 720 ranking round, followed by matchplay where each archer will shoot two matches.

League points will be awarded for ranking and match wins.

Distances

The Aspire League is shot at distances from 30m through to 70m.

Archers are encouraged to start at 30m, and shoot there until they can shoot a score of 600/720 at that distance, at which point they will graduate to the next distance (increments of 10m).

This progression will continue until the archer reaches their official tournament 720 distance for their age division.

Note: Intentionally dropping ranking points in order to shoot shorter distances is an overt display of poor sportsmanship and a breach of club values. This will not be tolerated, and archers suspected of result manipulation for the sake of pursuing league points will be expelled from the League.

Ranking

There will be 3 ends of official practice, followed by a 720 ranking round.

Matchplay

After ranking, matchplay will begin. Rules will follow the set based scoring system followed by World Archery:

Individual recurve matches are shot in 3-arrow sets and the match has a maximum of 5 sets. To score each set, the 3 arrows are added together and the archer with the highest score wins that set and is awarded 2 points for the win. If the scores are tied, the set is tied and each archer receives 1 point.

The first archer to 6 points wins the match.

So a match could be completed in 3 sets, which is a straight sets win or, it could go to 5 sets before there is a winner. If there is no clear winner after 5 sets and the scores are tied after 5 sets a single arrow shoot-off is used to break the tie. For a single arrow shoot-off, each archer shoots one arrow and the archer with the highest score will win the match or, if the same score is shot by both archers, the archer with the arrow closest to the centre will win the match.

Archers will shoot at least 2 matches each week.

The top 4 archers from the ranking round will enter directly into a semi-final bracket as follows:

All other archers will have their opponents chosen by drawing a random lot, or other method at the discretion of the DOS.

Each archer will receive 1 League Point for winning a match.

Overall Champion

Throughout the league, the overall rankings will be decided by the cumulative League Points gained over the course of the League.

The final week of the Aspire League will be finals event.

For the finals, the top 4 archers in standing by cumulative league points will enter into a semifinal bracket, followed by finals matches.
